2011 Year-end Breakfast - Mixed Fruit Pudding

IMG_0601 2011 year-end photo

What is to be recorded before the year-end of 2011?
I was so lucky to have a photo shooting of a yellow bird which perched on the clothing line and greeted me before I started my breakfast .

The breakfast item was supposed to be a Mixed Fruit Bundt Cake but it turned out as a disaster as this baker ( Yan )  made the wrong measurement of butter and flour !
So , the cake was too oily !

Disaster Management :
I needed to mix 100g of flour + 1 cup of milk + 2 beaten eggs +  the mashed mixed fruit cake, soaked for 10 mins.
Time : 1 hour 15 mins
Oven temperature : 190 C
End result :  Luckily it turned out well and yummy !

Two Soups in a Meal

IMG_0492

A late dinner at 10pm.
How did I design this menu ?
Why were there 2 soups in a menu ?
The beef brisket soup was an unexpected dish that was given by my sister.

Two-Soup Dinner Menu :

1. Beef Brisket Soup 牛腩汤 - (from Johor) , was too salty !
2. Side dish - salted vegetables and spring onion .
One doesn't need to eat with those salted vegetable as the beef soup was salty !:)

3. A simple and quick Campbell mushroom soup that I cooked. Chinese cabbage and slices of carrot were added.

Egg Tart and Kaya Puff

IMG_0441 Egg tart and kaya puff,蛋挞和咖央卜

A friend brought me these egg tart and kaya puff.

The pastry puff of the egg tart is too flaky and it doesn't holds its shapes well , it cracks easily whenever you take the tart.
I prefer those flaky Chinese pastry egg tart( 酥皮蛋挞).
But, Sonia's egg tarts with  frozen pastry looks yummy and I would like to try to make it one day.

Slices of Pork Curry with Kaffir Lime Leaves

IMG_0271 Preparation for a kaffir lime leaves curry

Cooking curry using those leftover ingredients in the fridge.
Those ingredients were tamarind, dried chilli , lemongrass ,ginger ,onion, garlic and the kaffir lime leaves which was quite dry as I plucked them few days ago.
The kaffir lime leaves need to be shredded before cooking in order to bring out the aroma of the leaves.

Lunch  Menu :

1. Slices of Pork Curry with kaffir lime leaves.
Kaffir lime leaves adding an aromatic and astringent flavour to the pork curry and it really made me want to cook this curry again in future.

2. Fried Kangkong (water convolvulus ) with garlic.
The kangkong was also lying in the fridge for 3 days as you can see that they are yellowish in the leaves.

Chicken and Roast Pork Belly Rice

IMG_0375 Roast chicken and white chicken ,烧鸡和白切鸡

White chicken and roast chicken rice are my last choice for lunch and dinner.
I prefer roast pork if I have a choice of eating these three.
The bonus dish is to have a plate of sour vegetables.

Lunch Menu for 3 :
1. White Chicken and Roast Chicken
2. Roast Pork Belly
3. Two plates of Yellow Oiled Rice and A Plate of Plain Rice ( This was for me).
4. But, where is the Bonus Dish ? We hadn't ordered any that day.

( Actually the stall was to busy and we had been waiting for about 30 mins. The only thing we wished to do was to finish lunch and left quickly !)
